"Our family planted a tree on behalf of Colby and Colby's Army. What a wonderful way to recognize a great cause and give back to the earth." Jim, a dad in upstate New York.

Operation Backpack, continued from Home Page
We need your help. Without backpacks, we cannot give homeless people the dignity of having a bar of soap or a washcloth, a clean pair of socks or a simple band-aid. Please help us by mailing your new or gently used backpack(s) to:
Colby’s Army
P.O. Box 90464
Nashville, TN 37209
At this time, we cannot accept items that are sent COD.
If you know of anyone who has access to large numbers of backpacks, such as a retail store manager or a backpack manufacturer, please let them know about us and about Operation Backpack. All donations are fully tax-deductible according to applicable laws and a donation to Colby’s Army of slightly damaged or older model backpacks may be a better economic solution for a business then remaindering them.
If you belong to a church, youth or other group, collecting backpacks for Colby’s Army is a wonderful community service project that will make a difference in the lives of many.
We also need a printer or print company who will print cloth stickers for us that we can put on the backpacks that identify them as a Colby’s Army pack. And we’d love to partner with stores or manufacturers who can provide bulk donations of products to go inside the backpacks. For more information on helping with Operation Backpack, please contact our Development Director, Cheryl Brickey.
We have already filled and given away dozens of packs. Our goal is to see those numbers to be in the hundreds, or even thousands, and packs will eventually be distributed nationwide. It is a simple thing, to provide a backpack to a homeless person, but this tiny act of kindness provides more comfort and dignity than you could ever possibly imagine.
Anniversary Tree Planting, continued from Home Page
A Leyland Cypress (which means grief, mourning and also immortality) was provided by Colby’s Army. Everyone pitched in to help plant, and took time to visit and catch up with each other. Thank you to all who remembered a young man who influenced so many.
Everyone pitched in to help . . .
. . . and took a turn digging.
People hung mementos on the tree's branches.
Colby’s Army board members Brenda Cline-Hizen and Lisa Wysocky.
While we chose to plant this tree on the first anniversary of Colby’s passing, you can plant a tree on behalf of Colby and Colby’s Army in your neighborhood any time, weather permitting. We encourage you to help out environment by planting a tree, and if you do, we’d love to see it! Send us a picture and tell us about yourself, the tree, and where it is planted.
